In Honor of Lee Sokolitz, THISG's founder.

In 1980, Lee Sokolitz's son Elliott was in an automobile accident when he was 33. Lee was a registered nurse and loved her son so much that she founded the "Trident Head Injury Support Group" in 1983 for her son and all other survivors and caregivers. She served as president for THISG from 1984 to 88 and again in 1990.

She received a diploma from Lincoln High School, then moved to Pittsburgh where she graduated from Passavant Hospital as an R.N. in 1945. She continued her education at Duquesne University from 1964 to 67, graduating with a B.S. in Nursing. At the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Public Health, she earned a Master's in Public Health in 1973. She worked in Pittsburgh for the Allegheny County Health Department as a visiting nurse, nursing director, and public health administrator from 1962 to 81. Moving to Charleston in 1981, she taught at the College of Nursing, the Medical University of South Carolina from 1983 to 88.

Her son Elliott now lives in the Ashley River Plantation Nursing Home in West Ashley, SC. Unfortunately, Lee Sokolitz (1923-2008) has passed, but her legacy will always remain in our prayers and thoughts.

Our Mission is to create a better future for Survivors, Caregivers, Families, and Friends through brain injury prevention, research, education, and advocacy.

Whether you have sustained a brain injury or care about someone who has, taking the time to share your and their personal story can make a profound difference to another. Join us by engaging with others facing brain injury at the Trident Head Injury Support Group meetings.

What a beautiful thing it is to stand tall and say, I fell apart, and I survived.

Brain injury survivors are the most extraordinary people surviving under the most terrible circumstances, and they become more remarkable because of it.
